Gaur Sighting in Tadoba
We all go to Tadoba with one big hope — tiger sighting. Same here. Our whole jeep was focused only on finding stripes. But the forest had different plans.
When we entered the Navegaon zone, we suddenly saw two huge Indian gaurs standing quietly in the middle of the green forest. They were not doing anything dramatic. Just eating, looking around, and minding their own business… but they looked so powerful. When a gaur stands in front of you, you instantly feel how strong this animal is — big horns, massive body, and a calm attitude like, “This is my jungle.”
Phone rule and cameras
One thing many people don’t know — mobile phones are not allowed inside Tadoba. You have to submit your phone outside. Some gates have cameras for rent, but honestly it is better to carry your own digital camera. The forest is full of surprises, and you don’t want to miss moments like this.
What we did
We watched the gaurs for a bit. They weren’t scared or bothered. They were just there, enjoying their day. After a few minutes, our driver said, “Chalo tiger dhoondte hain,” and everyone laughed.
- Carry water and some light snacks.
- Do not throw any waste inside the forest — keep it clean.
- Carry a digital camera with spare batteries and a memory card.
This gaur sighting reminded me that Tadoba is not only about tigers. The forest has many stories. You just need to look around and enjoy whatever comes your way.

The calm moments make the exciting moments feel more special. The gaurs taught us exactly that — quiet power, slow movement, and living peacefully in the forest.
