Bandhavgarh Weather and Climate: Month by Month Guide for Safari

Bandhavgarh in Madhya Pradesh has three clear seasons: a cool winter, a very hot summer and a wet monsoon. The weather decides what you wear in the jeep, how the forest looks and how likely you are to see a tiger. Here is the climate month by month, from our own safaris.

Days are pleasant, but early mornings in an open jeep are cold, often close to freezing in late December and January. Carry a warm jacket, a cap and gloves. The forest is green and the light is soft, which is good for photography and birds.

Summer (March to June)

This is the hottest time and the best time for tigers. Water dries up, animals gather at the remaining waterholes and the forest thins out, so sightings are more frequent. Afternoons in May can pass 40°C. Carry water, a hat, sunscreen and a dust cover for your camera.

Monsoon (July to September)

The core zones of Bandhavgarh close from 1 July to 30 September. The forest turns very green, and a few buffer areas may stay open. It is a quiet time for a visit, but not for a tiger safari.
